[NEWS] One Ok Rock Newest Digital Single Taking Off

ONE OK ROCK have been working hard at the studio and are now ready to bring to you their newest digital single, titled Taking off! The single will be available in less than a week, on September 16, through iTunes.

The new single will also be used as the theme song for the new Japanese movie, Museum, an adaptation from the manga series of the same name, which deals with the confrontation of a serial killer and a crime scene investigator.

As heard from a low quality, unofficial upload on YouTube, which can be heard below, the song seems to be keeping those American pop influences in their sound, similar to 35xxxv‘s Paper Planes, which some fans seem to love, according to the comments on the video.

However, for older fans like me, it might not be the band’s best, for they have always been used to listening to songs like Deeper Deeper, The Beginning, and Kanzen Kankaku Dreamer (which are American rock influenced already, as it always has been for ONE OK ROCK’s music), but the new sound ONE OK ROCK is putting out is definitely off-putting for me, and I can only see this new song as some sort of Japanese equivalent of Maroon 5.

I don’t know about you guys, but I certainly do not enjoy the direction the band is taking. While, yes, Taka’s voice shines throughout the preview, the synth completely shadows the bass, guitar, and drums, making this seem more like pop than rock within this new pop-rock genre they’ve taken on. However, this is still only a 45-second preview of the full song, so maybe the rest of the song is still holding a piece of that old ONE OK ROCK essence that older fans remember with joy. But what about you guys? Do you enjoy this new direction ONE OK ROCK is taking?
